FAQ

How is the Estonian tax-free allowance calculated in 2026?

Starting from 2026, Estonia applies a flat tax-free allowance of €700 per month for all income levels. This replaces the 2025 sliding scale where the allowance decreased from €654 to €0 between gross salaries of €1,200 and €2,100.

What is the difference between gross and net salary in Estonia?

Gross salary is the amount before deductions. Net salary is what you receive after unemployment insurance (1.6%), funded pension (0–6%), and income tax (22%) are subtracted. The employer additionally pays 33% social tax and 0.8% unemployment insurance on top of the gross.

How does the funded pension (II pillar) affect my salary?

If you have joined the II pillar, 2% of your gross salary is deducted as a pension contribution (4% or 6% if you chose a higher rate). This reduces your taxable income slightly but also reduces your net pay.

Is this calculator accurate for EMTA tax reporting?

This calculator follows the official Estonian Tax and Customs Board (EMTA) formulas for income tax, social tax, unemployment insurance, and pension contributions. It supports both 2025 and 2026 tax years.
